Clothing Size Chart
Quick answer: find the row that contains your chest (men) or bust (women), then check the waist column against the same row. If the two columns disagree, you are between sizes — and the brand’s cut decides which way to go. The tables below use standard US retail ranges, in inches and centimetres.

Men's trousers and jeans
Sold by waist measurement rather than a letter, which is why jeans sizing travels better between countries than letter sizing does.

Why these charts are only a starting point
These are standard retail ranges. A brand's own chart is the only one that describes the garment you are about to buy: Uniqlo is built on Japanese sizing and runs about a size small, Nike cuts athletic through the chest, Carhartt is cut for layering. If you are between two rows here, the brand chart decides.
The other half of the problem is labelling: a US M is an EU 48 and a JP L, so converting the letter without converting the body is how people end up with the wrong size. Use the size converter for that, and the brand size chart library for the specific chart.
Measure first, then read the chart
Three numbers cover almost every purchase: chest, waist and hips. The measuring guide walks through each one; the clothing size calculator estimates them from a photo if you do not have a tape.
Frequently asked questions
What is a size M in measurements?
For men, a US M is normally a 38–40 inch chest (97–102 cm). For women, a US M is usually a 35.5–36.5 inch bust (90–93 cm), a 28–29 inch waist and 38.5–39.5 inch hips — but the women’s M letter maps to different numbers in the UK (10) and EU (38).
Is a US M the same as a UK M?
For men, yes — US and UK letters match. For women, no: a US M is a UK 10, and the UK uses numbers rather than letters for women’s clothing above children’s sizes.
What size is a 32 inch waist?
A 32 inch waist is a US/UK 32 in trousers, roughly an EU 48 in tailored sizing and about 81 cm. Jeans are usually sold by the waist measurement itself, which is why jeans sizing survives across borders better than letter sizing.
Why does the same size fit differently in different brands?
Because a size is a range, and each brand sets the range around its own fit model. Nike cuts athletic through the chest, Carhartt is cut for layering, Uniqlo is built on Japanese sizing. Compare your measurements to the brand’s own chart before trusting the label.
