Women's Clothing Size Charts
A women's clothing size chart is the harder half of the problem: US, UK and EU numbers all start from different zero points, and athletic brands cut the same label tighter than fashion brands. The ten charts below list bust, waist and hip ranges in centimetres, so you can compare a brand against your own measurements rather than against a letter. Measure yourself once, then read the chart that belongs to the brand you are buying.

US, UK and EU women's sizes
UK women's sizes sit four numbers above US: a US 8 is a UK 12. EU runs in a third sequence (a US 8 is an EU 40), and Italian sizes add two more (an IT 42). Japanese women's sizes run three above US, so a US 8 is a JP 11. The full table is in the size converter.
The label is only half the decision. A women's M from Nike is cut for an athletic frame, while the same M from a fashion brand assumes a straighter one — which is why the same bust measurement can be an M in one chart and an L in the next.
How to measure for a women's clothing size chart
- Bust — around the fullest part, over the apex, tape parallel to the floor and arms down.
- Waist — the narrowest point, usually just above the navel. Keep a finger under the tape; a cinched reading is the most common reason people order a size too small.
- Hips — widest point, feet together, roughly 20 cm below the waist. It decides trousers, skirts and anything fitted through the seat.
Three numbers are enough for almost every purchase. The full method, including the four mistakes that cause most returns, is in how to take body measurements; if you do not have a tape, the clothing size calculator estimates the same three from a photo.
Women's size chart questions
What is a US 8 in UK women’s sizes?
A US 8 is a UK 12, an EU 40 and a JP 11. UK women’s sizes sit four numbers above US across the range, so the offset is the same at a US 2 (UK 6) and a US 16 (UK 20).
Which measurement decides a women’s top size?
The bust, for tops and dresses. If the bust and waist land in different rows you are between sizes: size to the bust for woven fabrics with no stretch, and to the waist for anything fitted or belted.
Why is a US M a UK 10?
Because the two countries set their size runs from different zero points. A US M is a UK 10 and an EU 38; the letters do not travel, only the body measurement does.
How do I measure bust, waist and hips?
Bust at the fullest part, tape parallel to the floor and arms down; waist at the narrowest point, keeping a finger under the tape; hips at the widest point with feet together. Measure over fitted clothing, and measure twice.
